Rita M. Cammarata, DDS
Dr. Rita Cammarata is a native Texan, born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas. She is a graduate of Lamar University, and she practiced adult and pediatric dental hygiene for 12 years before returning to dental school in 1992. Dr. Cammarata received her dental degree and completed her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston.
Dr. Cammarata has received numerous awards for her professional accomplishments. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a Fellow in the College of Diplomates, and she has successfully maintained her board certification. She has been selected to the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists, both of which have a selective membership limited to 2-3% of dentists worldwide. Dr. Cammarata has been honored twice with the President's Award of the Greater Houston Dental Society (GHDS) for her dedicated service to the society. Additional accolades include the Jack Harris Award from the Greater Houston Dental Alliance, the Award of Excellence from the American Student Dental Association, a nomination for Texas Academy of General Dentistry Dentist of the Year and special recognition from the American Society of Dentistry for Children for her outstanding proficiency in Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Cammarata has been active in organized dentistry for many years and has held numerous positions on the local, state, and national level. She has served as the President of the Greater Houston Dental Society, a Director on the Texas Dental Association Board of Directors, and is currently serving as as President of the Texas Dental Association (TDA). This is a position that historically has been previously held by only one other female dentist. She has served the American Dental Association (ADA) as a member of the Council on Dental Practice and as Delegate to the ADA House of Delegates. She has served as chairperson of the GHDS Dental Health Committee, a member of the GHDS Peer Review Committee, and a delegate representing the Houston area in the Texas Dental Association House of Delegates. Also at the local level, she has served various chair positions for the Star of the South Dental Meeting. She is also past Secretary/Treasurer of GHDS, Past-President of the Houston Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (HAPD), Secretary-Treasurer of the University of Texas School of Dentistry Alumni Association Board of Directors, and has served as Chair of the UTSD Advisory Council. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Texas Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and Southwest Society of Pediatric Dentistry, along with the ADA, TDA, GHDS, HAPD.
Dr. Cammarata is involved in her community, supporting numerous youth activities, including sports, theater arts and academics. Dr. Cammarata is a committed advocate for children's dental issues. She energetically pursues continuing educational opportunities with a special focus in caries prevention, trauma, and growth and development of the jaws and facial structures.
When Dr. Cammarata is not in the office she enjoys photography and travel. She loves sharing life with family, friends, her four cats, and her dog, Maddy.
