Extraction

Post Op Care

Your child has had a tooth extracted. Please follow these instructions to care for the area:

  1. Have your child bite on the piece of gauze for 10-20 minute . Change the gauze as it becomes soggy.

  2. For 24 hours: NO STRAWS, NO CARBONATED BEVERAGES (this  includes Topo-Chico etc) and NO CRUNCHY FOODS.

  3. Your child should brush tonight, but with special care in the treated area(s).

  4. If your child had local anesthesia (numbing) watch your child for at least 2 hours to make sure he/she does not bite his lips, tongue and/or cheeks.

  5. Do not give your child anything that requires chewing or an thing hot to eat or drink until you are sure the anesthesia has worn off completely. Foods such as yogurt, pudding, jello, mashed potatoes etc are fine. Tomorrow a regular diet is fine.

  6. It is a good idea to give some Advil or Tylenol following the appointment to keep your child from having discomfort as the local anesthesia wears off.
